MASTER / DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN POLYMER ENGINEERING
Master of Philoshopy and PhD programmes in Polymer Engineering by research are offer by the Department of Bioprocess & Polymer Engineering, Faculty of Chemical & Energy Engineering, UTM. These programmes provide candidates with the opportunity to further their studies and to achieve academic maturity via novel research work in the area of polymer engineering. The global challenges faced by the industry have increased the demand for new and innovative materials, how to select, combine, process and recycle them. Therefore there has been a growing demand for polymer engineer to work in polymer industries covers plastics, rubber and composite to support plastics operations in Malaysia.
Students studying for a postgraduate research degree in Polymer Engineering work on projects of real-world significance, which feed into improvements in life for everyone. Close collaboration with industry in some projects also provides essential skill for a career in the polymeric materials design and products.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEO)
PEO 1: Graduates are able to incorporate in-depth relevant knowledge in engineering practices.

Programme Learning Outcomes (PLO)
PLO 1: Apply advanced knowledge in polymer engineering related areas
PLO 2: Design and conduct scientific research using acceptable methodologies and solve research problems through effective thinking skills.
PLO 3: Analyze and evaluate technical findings through effective thinking skills and application of appreciate tools and techniques.
PLO 4: Demonstrate technical findings effectively in oral and written.

Master of Philosophy:
Candidate must hold a Bachelor Degree in any field of engineering, science or technology with cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 3.0/4.0 or equivalent from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia or any other Institutions of Higher Learning recognized by the Senate. In the case where CGPA less than 3.0, a minimum of 1 year working experience is needed.
Candidate who is not from Polymer background degree Institutions of Higher Learning recognized by the Senate with CGPA of 3.0/4.0 with or without working experience must take prerequisite course that will determined by the faculty. The course must be registered as HW*
*HW is a registration status of a course which is stipulated by the faculty and is subjected to normal assessment.
Doctor of Philosophy:
A Master’s Degree from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia or any other Institutions of higher learning recognized by the Senate; or
Other qualifications equivalent to a Master’s degree and experience in the relevant field recognised by the Senate; or
Candidates who are currently registered in a Master’s Degree programme at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, and approved by the Graduate Studies Committee of the respective faculty and the Senate.
The programme is offered in full-time and part-time mode with a require completion of an original research thesis that makes a significant new contribution to the field of polymer engineering. The assessment of the research is based on the progress report, supervisor’s evaluation, research proposal and viva.
