Background

         Dr Hajar Alias received her B.Sc (ChE) from University of Rochester, New York in 1994.  She then pursued her studies and received her M.Eng (ChE) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 2000.  After several years of experience in teaching and learning, she pursued for doctoral degree at the University of Leeds, United Kingdom and received her PhD in 2007.

        She joined the Department of Chemical Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 1996 as a Tutor.  After receiving her Master’s degree, she was appointed as Lecturer in 2000 and became Senior Lecturer in 2008.  She teaches undergraduate courses such as Chemical Reaction Engineering, Thermodynamics, Statics and others.  She also teaches postgraduate courses such as Advanced Thermodynamics and Advanced Kinetics.

        Her current research interest include nanomaterials, nanofluids and catalysis.  She has led several research projects on the mentioned subject matter.  She has supervised research students and became examiner for postgraduate research.  She has published many scientific findings in refereed international, national journal as well as conference proceedings.  She has reviewed papers for various journal and proceedings.

        She is an Associate Member of IChemE UK and also Graduate Member of Board of Engineer, Malaysia.

        Currently she is the Academic Manager for external program at the Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering, a post she hold since November 2012.  She is also a Assessor Panel for the Malaysia Qualification Agency since 2009.  She has assessed several academic programs from both public and private institutions.  She is also a member of the faculty academic committee since 2007.
