Dr. Anwar Johari is an academic staff at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Chemical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He received his diploma from Institut Teknologi MARA, Shah Alam in Industrial Chemistry. He then furthered his study in chemical engineering at the University of Leeds, United Kingdom and obtained second class upper in 1995.

He later worked in private sectors for two years before decided to pursue his studies at higher level. He was accepted as a tutor in the Department of Chemical Engineering in 1997 and continued his studies in Master in Chemical Engineering and obtained its degree in 2001 from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He also successfully completed his PhD in Solid Waste Management from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 2009 focusing in solid waste incineration in a fluidized bed combustor.

He specializes in thermal treatment of solid wastes such as biomass and municipal solid waste. His research activities also focus on thermal degradation of carbonaceous material using combustion, gasification and pyrolysis techniques. Currently looking into the prospect of generating electricity from renewable energy sources such as biomass and solar thermal. He had provided training on solid waste management to Jabatan Sisa Pepejal Negara and Institut Alam Sekitar Malaysia and also involved in several consultancy services.
